Op. Dr. Erol UÇANER Urologist

Renal Pelvis and Ureteral Cancers

What is Renal Pelvis and Ureteral Cancers?

Cancers of the renal pelvis and ureter arise from urothelial cells lining the upper urinary tract. Together they are called upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC), distinct from renal cell carcinoma of kidney tissue. The most common warning is blood in the urine with or without pain; work-up may include CT urography, cystoscopy, urine cytology and ureteroscopy when needed. Treatment depends on location, grade, stage and risk, and may include kidney-sparing endoscopic methods or nephroureterectomy, planned in a multidisciplinary, individualised way.
